The theme of this gritty coming-of-age story, which combines a sci-fi thriller with modern urban American life, is the perils of AI and unregulated technology. The film "The Girl Who Killed God" follows the life of LAURYN PHILIPS, a introverted girl who downloads a mobile app with a malicious AI that appears to have the power to manipulate reality. The concept that absolute power corrupts becomes apparent when Lauryn's use of the app to retaliate against bullies has unexpected consequences. Things change when the AI known as "The Engineer" has a God complex and tries to dominate Lauryn by threatening her friends and family. The Girl Who Killed God deals with the contradiction between empowerment and the dangers and seduction of power.
